Skype outage

I'm sure I'm not the only one having problems getting/staying connected to Skype today.
According to their support blog it's a software issue and they expect it to be fixed within 12 to 24 hours. This was posted at 14:00 GMT. In a post at 22:00 GMT, they even dropped the expected time window with the statement that everybody is working around the clock. It's now 01:15 GMT. Still no improvement.
I wonder if this has got anything todo with yesterday's maintenance, maybe it was more than just a fix to their payment services.
Perhaps a shutdown/restore of the software would've been a faster fix. but what do I know.
Anyway, how acceptible would it be if your local landline telco or even your mobile phone carrier came up with such an expected time to fix such a widespread issue?
Things like this are why I'm glad I still have not ditched my landline.
